Bali, through the hands that shape it.
Silver, cloth and the curve of a letter. Make space for the island’s living traditions.
iA quieter way to encounter Bali begins at a worktable. Watch a tool move across silver, follow wax through cloth, or trace a letter unfamiliar to your hand. The reward is time spent noticing how something is made — and listening to the person who knows it best.
A conversation through silver
John Hardy offers two different starting points: its workshop environment in Mambal, and the Seminyak boutique’s Icon Chain experience. They belong to the same design house, but they are different visits. Choose the setting that suits your day and tell us whether your curiosity is about the making process, a hands-on session or the wider atelier experience. We will confirm the format and what is included before you book.
Let the cloth take its time
Batik asks for a different rhythm. At Five Arts Atelier in Peliatan, you can choose a three-hour introduction or a six-hour immersion. Wax, colour and composition need attention; this is a reason to keep the rest of the afternoon light. An atelier session also offers a useful alternative to moving between several sights. You leave with a piece you have worked on, and a little more understanding of the process behind it.
iThe shape of a living language
Amandari’s Aksara Bali session introduces Balinese script, a tradition closely connected with the island’s ceremonial life. This is presented as a guest experience; we check access for guests staying elsewhere. It is an invitation to learn with a host, rather than a performance to collect.
Build a day around one good encounter
Choose one workshop as the centre of your day. Add a relaxed lunch nearby, allow for the journey from your accommodation and keep time for questions. Tell us if you are travelling with children, need a particular language or would prefer a private format. Ask before photographing makers or their work: the conversation matters more than the camera.
Workshop length, private formats, guest access and materials are confirmed for your date.
